The wide brimmed hats were worn in all of the western films from our childhood and represented the romance and excitement of the frontier. In this section of western-wear.biz, we will briefly go over the different types of western hats. The first type of western hats is the felt fur hat. These are the most common as well as the original western hats. They were originally made to protect cowboys from rain. Because of the use of water repellent fur, these hats were very efficient at hold their shape as well as repelling water. Beaver and muskrat fur were considered to be best fur felts and consequently are the most expensive as well. A high quality fur felt hat can cost up to $4000, but will also last up to 20 years. The second type of hat we will cover is the straw hat. Straw hats were constructed by tightly weaving straw together in narrow braids. These hats were usually worn in summer seasons due to their light weight construction and breath ability. Because these hats are constructed from straw, they aren't very durable and will probably last only a few years. The next type is the leather hat. Leather western hats are tough, rugged and very durable. They are coated in wax and/or oil to provide water resistance and come in very wide brims for protection from the sun. Although they may be heavy and bulky, they make up for it with durability. The last hats on our menu are wool felt western hats. Wool hats generally don't hold their shape too well and are recommended only for dry climates. Getting these hats wet is the last thing you want to do. A western wardrobe wouldn't be complete without a western hat. These hats offer protection from the sun as well as the rain with added comfort and style that will please any fan of .
